This holiday is usually a time when public school educators celebrate the advances we have made for our profession and the start of a new school year. But this year is like no other. Today, it is hard to be excited and happy with the uncertainty brought on by COVID-19 and the crazy politics bombarding us every day.

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, those looking to kill public education in New Orleans took the opportunity and ran with it. Now, with schools closed across the United States because of the coronavirus crisis, will those preaching privatization make another big push?

Schonfeld offered a wide range of methods to help students and adults cope with extreme circumstances.

Being politically inactive during this crisis is not an option. Administrators must clearly articulate the needs of their schools to policymakers.
To do so, we have to organize. Council of School Supervisors & Administrators (CSA), AFSA Local 1, Government Affairs Director Gabriel Gallucci and AFSA Political Strategist Jon Bernstein provided key insights into forming political action committees (PACs), as well as Washington’s recent COVID relief packages for schools.
