U.S. Senate Resolution Honors Assistant Principals

The U.S. Senate will vote on a resolution that honors and recognizes the pivotal role assistant principals play in helping students and teachers succeed in schools across the United States. The recognition comes during National Assistant Principals Week, April 3–7, 2023.

“I often say any successful organization, government or business is due to strong leadership, and the same can be said for our schools," said U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), who introduced the bill. "Over the past three years especially, assistant principals have shown strength and resilience by navigating our students, teachers and faculty through a global pandemic. From providing support to students and teachers to developing innovative curriculum that help keep learning safe, assistant principals play a critical, indispensable role in helping our students and teachers succeed. This resolution is about recognizing and celebrating the hard work they do every day to enrich communities and improve schools throughout our country."

“Assistant principals play a crucial role in helping students and teachers achieve success,” said bill co-sponsor U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). National Assistant Principals Week promotes awareness of the role played by assistant principals in school leadership and ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education.

Carper has introduced the National Assistant Principals Week resolution each Congress since the 114th Congress. The full text of the resolution can be viewed here.
