She taught secondary mathematics for 10 years, was the mathematics department chair at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute for 3 years, and has been an Academic Content Liaison for 9 years. In addition to her educational experience, she has a financial background. She has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Morgan State University. Valarie has 22 years of financial experience in banking. She ended her career in banking to pursue teaching as a Vice President/Financial Analyst for Small Business Banking at Allfirst currently known as M&T Bank.
