Shionata Somerville has worked in Baltimore City Schools since 2001 wearing different hats and fulfilling many duties.  She served as a Mathematics Teacher, Department Lead, Testing Coordinator, Summer Program Site Coordinator, Assistant Principal and now Principal.  She advanced through her career with the goal of providing an equitable academic experience for all students.  Before entering the education field, she worked as an analyst at Synergy, Inc., a company that provided technological support to the United States Air Force.  There she acquired skills in quantitative supply chain management, data analysis, technical manual writing, database management and programming.  Although this company was technology and data driven, she is confident that the interpersonal and team building skills she acquired followed her into her career in education.
